Welcome to the Seminary of the Sacred Heart

The Seminary of the Sacred Heart is a modern institution dedicated to equipping future leaders of the Church with the spiritual, theological, and practical tools necessary for ministry. As the official seminary of the Old Catholic Union of the West, hosted by the Diocese of the Pacific, we are committed to forming clergy and lay leaders grounded in the traditions of the Church while meeting the needs of and inclusive and contemporary society.

Flexible and Accessible Learning

We embrace an asynchronous learning model, utilizing Google Classroom to deliver quality theological education. This flexible approach allows students to engage with the coursework at their own pace, whether attending remotely or in person. Our model accommodates the diverse lives and schedules of both those pursuing ordination and lay ministry.

Programs of Study

At the Seminary of the Sacred Heart, we offer a range of degree programs tailored to meet the educational and spiritual needs of our students:

  • Associate Degrees – foundational studies in theology and ministry

  • Bachelor Degrees – advanced theological education and ministry preparation

  • Master Degrees – deep theological reflection and specialized ministry training

Our programs span from ordination tracks to lay ministry and are designed to prepare individuals for service in both ecclesial and secular contexts.

Religious Exemption

As a religiously exempt higher education institution, we operate under the provisions of California Education Code § 94874, ensuring that our curriculum and programs align with the specific needs of our faith community. This exemption enables us to focus on delivering a deeply rooted, religiously focused education without the limitations placed on secular institutions.
